Privacy Policy
Who we are
Morning News Brief is a product of Frontier Mission. For any question about this policy, or about information relating to you, contact admin@frontiermission.org.
This policy covers four things, which are described separately below: the Morning News Brief website, the automated production pipeline that makes each episode, the third-party services that pipeline uses, and the server logs that record requests to this website.
1. The Morning News Brief website
This website has no user accounts, sign-in, subscription, contact form, or comment area. It does not ask you for personal information.
The website’s source contains no analytics code, no advertising or tracking code, and no cookie-setting code. It runs no scripts in your browser. It loads no fonts, images, or other resources from outside its own address.
Requests to the website are recorded in the web server’s access logs, described in section 4. Because of that, the website is not entirely free of personal data: the logs can include your IP address.
2. The production pipeline
Each daily episode is produced by an automated pipeline that runs on a schedule. It collects public news headlines and item details and the day’s weather for Nairobi. It does not collect information about the people who watch, listen to, or visit the episodes.
The pipeline keeps a few operational records, held in the operator’s private code repository and automation service: a record of each episode published to YouTube (its video identifier, link, privacy setting and upload time), each day’s headlines kept for the next run, and the logs of each automated run.
The pipeline also keeps the credentials it needs, as described in section 6.
3. Third-party services the pipeline uses
- OpenAI receives the day’s collected material to write the briefing (model gpt-5), and the written briefing to produce its narration (model gpt-4o-mini-tts). OpenAI’s own terms and privacy policy apply to that processing.
- Google News search feeds are requested to collect headlines. Each request reaches Google, and Google’s terms apply.
- wttr.in, a public weather service, is asked for the Nairobi weather.
- Telegram receives the briefing text and audio, which are sent to a Telegram chat controlled by the operator.
- YouTube, a Google service, receives each published episode. Episodes are public, and YouTube handles information about viewers under its own terms.
- GitHub runs the scheduled pipeline, stores its secrets, and holds the operator’s private repository of records.
Each of these services has its own privacy terms, which apply to information it processes. This policy does not describe how any of them retain information.
Google, YouTube and authorisation
Morning News Brief publishes episodes to a YouTube channel controlled by Frontier Mission. The operator authorised the pipeline to do this through Google’s OAuth 2.0 consent screen.
The only Google permission the pipeline requests is https://www.googleapis.com/auth/youtube.upload, which allows it to upload videos to that channel. It does not request permission to read viewer information, comments, subscriptions, or analytics.
The authorisation lets the scheduled run upload each episode without a person signing in every time. The resulting refresh token is stored as an encrypted secret in the operator’s GitHub Actions environment. It is used only to upload Morning News Brief episodes, it is not published on this website or in the pipeline’s code, and it is masked in run logs.
You can withdraw this authorisation at any time from Google’s permissions page. Withdrawing it stops future uploads until the pipeline is authorised again.
Information about viewers of YouTube videos is handled by YouTube and Google under their own terms. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
4. Server and access logs
The web server that serves this website records each request as part of standard operation. A record can include the IP address of the connection, the time, the page requested, the response status, and the browser’s identification string and referring page.
The logs exist to operate and secure the website and to diagnose problems. No analytics, log-management, external log shipping, or copying of these logs is configured by this website or by the Morning News Brief project. The hosting infrastructure that runs this website is operated separately, and how it handles logs at that level is outside this project’s own configuration and not described by this policy.
This site does not configure a log retention period. How long request records persist depends on the hosting infrastructure, which is outside this site’s own configuration.
5. How long we keep information
We keep information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including operational, security, legal and service requirements. This policy does not set fixed retention periods for the pipeline’s records.
6. Security
Credentials and tokens used by the pipeline are kept as encrypted secrets. They are not published on this website, in the pipeline’s code, or in its run logs. Access to the operator’s accounts is controlled by the operator. No system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
7. Sharing
We do not sell personal information. Information is shared only with the services listed in section 3, to the extent needed to produce and deliver each episode.
8. Your requests
To ask a question about this policy or make a request about information relating to you, contact admin@frontiermission.org. We will consider and respond to requests in line with applicable law in Kenya.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
10. Governing law
This policy is governed by the laws of Kenya.
